Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information ModernAction collects, how we use it, when we share it, and what choices you have when using the platform.

Last updated: April 14, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the public ModernAction platform, including account features, bill and briefing pages, campaign pages, official lookup tools, AI-assisted drafting flows, contact forms, and related services. It should be read together with our Terms of Service and Cookie Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account and Authentication Data

If you create an account or sign in, we may collect identifiers and profile information such as your Auth0 user ID, name, email address, profile image, login state, and email-verification status. If you use Google One Tap or another supported identity flow, the authentication provider also processes sign-in data under its own policies.

Profile and Contact Data

You may provide profile and contact details such as your first and last name, prefix, phone number, street address, city, state, ZIP code, interests, and communication preferences. When saved through the profile tools or secure action flows, sensitive fields like saved phone numbers and addresses are encrypted at rest before storage.

Civic Action and Message Data

When you use action flows, we may collect the bill or issue you acted on, your stance, selected reasons, custom reasons, personal stories, message drafts, edited messages, targeted chamber or officials, delivery results, and follow-up alert preferences.

Support, Feedback, and Update Requests

When you submit a contact form, support request, partnership inquiry, or update signup, we collect the content you provide plus operational metadata such as IP address, user agent, and referrer so we can route the request, prevent abuse, and respond.

Usage, Device, and Analytics Data

We collect technical and usage data such as IP address, browser and device details, pages viewed, search interactions, action history, cookies, local or session storage state, and analytics or session replay events when those tools are enabled in the environment running the service.

Public and Third-Party Data

We also receive data from public legislative and officials sources and from service providers that support the platform, such as authentication, mapping, analytics, AI, and message-delivery tools.

3. How We Use Information

We use information we collect to:

  • Operate, secure, and improve the platform
  • Authenticate users and keep guest and signed-in activity linked correctly
  • Look up officials, prepare outreach, and route or deliver messages you request
  • Store profile data and pre-fill future actions when you opt to save that information
  • Generate AI-assisted summaries, explanations, and draft messages
  • Send follow-up alerts, account notices, support responses, or requested updates
  • Measure usage, diagnose bugs, investigate abuse, and prevent fraud or spam
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies

4. When We Share Information

Service Providers and Infrastructure

We share information with vendors that help us run the service. Depending on the feature and environment, our current stack may include providers such as Auth0, Google, PostHog, FullStory, OpenAI, Geocodio, public legislative or officials data providers, and related infrastructure vendors.

Official Lookup and Message Delivery

If you ask us to help contact elected officials or use an integrated campaign workflow, we share the information needed to complete that request with the relevant recipients and delivery partners. Depending on the flow, that may include elected officials themselves, New/Mode, Action Network, or other delivery systems supporting the action.

Legal, Safety, and Abuse Prevention

We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law, respond to legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or defend the platform and its users.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies for authentication, sign-in security, saved progress, preferences, analytics, conversion measurement, and debugging. Some tools are only active when configured in the running environment. See our Cookie Policy for a fuller description.

6. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You can update saved profile information through your profile tools, choose whether to save address data for future actions, and turn off or remove supported follow-up alerts in the relevant product flows.

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may also have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or limits on certain uses or disclosures of your personal information. To make a privacy request, use our contact page and include "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling some requests, and some requests may be handled manually because not every privacy control is currently available as a self-service setting.

7. Security and Retention

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the information we store, including access controls, encryption in transit, and application-level encryption for saved phone numbers and addresses when those fields are stored by supported flows.

We keep personal information for as long as needed to operate the service, maintain action history, prevent abuse, comply with law, and resolve disputes. Different records can have different retention periods depending on their purpose and legal requirements.

8. Children's Privacy

ModernAction is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, use our contact page so we can review and address the issue.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above.

10. Contact

For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, use our contact page and include "Privacy Request" in the subject line so your message can be routed appropriately.
